Loving ALL the Colors!

Full Spectrum Orange

I have been fascinated with color since my first childhood box of crayons. I begged for the big set with the rows of fabulous colors and the sharpener in the back. Give me the full spectrum- not just the basics! I would color for hours and even as a toddler, loved to experiment with new colors and combinations. While I’m not crazy about beige or mauve, I’ve really never met a color I didn’t like.

When I look through my portfolio, I realize almost all my work is intensely colored. Occasionally there will be a neutral series but even that will have high contrast. Recently I created a personal challenge to explore color combinations that are outside my comfort zone. It’s been a great learning experience and I’ve been surprised at some of my new favorites. Even when I work with more subtle palettes, an accent of intense color will “accidentally” appear. I just can’t help myself.

These collages highlight the full spectrum of colors. Scrolling through images in my photo archives, I was surprised how easy it was to find artwork for each color group. Again, my love of intense color is on full display. Even the black and brown group has high contrast and drama. I admire and respect artists who work in monochromatic or low key colors. That’s just not me, so I’ve embraced my unadulterated love for intense, high key colors. They brought me joy as a kid and they still do today.
