These color collage studies all use a black background to unify the series and incorporate a wide variety of collage items for each color. I often do a project like this when the piles of paper and collage elements threaten to engulf the studio. It’s also a great exercise when you hit a creativity block. It’s fun to go on a scavenger hunt and collect bits and bobs for each color. Fabric scraps, old jewelry parts, embroidery, beading, and hand printed collage papers are all in the mix. Each one was a different challenge based on the elements I had for the color. Taking a bunch of random items that are only united by color and producing a great collage composition stretches your creative muscles. I love color and I love a series – what can I say?
